Chase Elliott Makes History as Youngest ASA SAT Winner
Teenage Son of Bill Elliott Puts on Quite a Show at Anderson with TJ Reaid

ANDERSON, SC (August 10, 2009) - Chase Elliott has been no stranger to Victory Lane.
He spent quite some time there as an infant, in the arms of his father, legendary
NASCAR driver Bill Elliott.  And since Chase has begun his own personal racing
career, he’s found Victory Lane several times on his own, in everything from Go-Karts
to Bandoleros to Legends Cars to Pro Late Models.

Now, the teenager can call himself an ASA winner, something his father was never able
to do during his illustrious career.

Elliott put on a thrilling show with ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour hotshoe TJ Reaid on
Saturday night at Anderson Motor Speedway in Anderson, SC, capturing his first-career
ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour win in the Anderson 100 presented by RC Cola / MoonPie.

“That was awesome,” said Elliott, who now becomes the youngest winner in the history
of the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour.  “We worked hard this past week, worked hard at
the race track, and it paid off with a win. I couldn’t have done it with Aaron’s and all the
guys on the team sticking behind us.”

Elliott took the lead from polesitter Reaid on lap 86 and never relinquished it the rest
of the night, despite racing side-by-side with the fellow Georgia-native for several laps.
A late-race caution set up a final showdown between the two drivers, with Elliott pulling
away and grabbing the victory.

“The car was really good up off the corner,” added Elliott, whose famous father had
two-career ASA National Tour starts back in the late 1980s and a best finish of third.
“I got it stuck up under him up off of [turn] 4 there and got position. This win was
awesome; it’s the biggest win of my career by far. I don’t know if I was more excited
about the win or my dad. We were both really excited about it.”

Even with the ASA SAT win, Chase doesn’t think he’s won any family bragging rights.

“I don’t know about [bragging rights]; he’s got quite a lot more wins overall,” said Chase.

But if the team continues its recent hot streak, Chase could narrow the margin somewhat.

”We were pretty good at the beginning of the year, but we kind of got off trying some different stuff and realized that wasn’t the right way to go. We kind of went back to what we began the season with and started running good again. I think we’re getting back on the right track. I just want to be consistently running in the top five and win some more races.”

ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour points leader Jason Hogan started on the outside pole and led the first 30 laps in the event until Austin Hill took over the top spot for the next 52 laps.  Hill looked to be on the way to his best-career ASA SAT finish and a possible victory before falling off the pace with worn tires, relegating him to an eventual seventh-place run.

Reaid, who had won two out of the last three races, then took over the top spot, but for only three laps, before Elliott put his #9 out front for good.

Russell Fleeman continued to impress in a limited ASA SAT schedule.  He backed up his second at Lanier a few weeks ago with a third-place finish at Anderson.

The event featured only two caution flag periods, both coming in the final 15 laps of the event.  The caution that set up the final run to the checkers took Jarred Foley out of his first-career top-five finish, relegating him to 10th in the final rundown.

Local drivers Ralph Carnes and Randy Porter each had strong cars all weekend long.  However, Porter fell off the pace and out of the event with about 25 laps to go, while Carnes responded from a disappointing qualifying run to finish sixth.

The ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour will be back on track in a couple of weeks with the makeup date for the RC Cola/MoonPie 100 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC on August 22.  The event was originally scheduled for July 11th, but was pushed back due to Mother Nature.

A full schedule of events for the race will be posted on the ASA SAT website, www.asasoutheastasphalttour.com, in the coming days.
